INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTS, DESIGNERS AND PLANNERS IN VAL D’OSSOLA ON LAGO MAGGIORE FOR THE INCOMING GREEN MISSION DEDICATED TO MARBLE I
In Italy to learn about the latest developments in the stone materials industry, a group of professionals were able to experience a low environmental impact event called “Lago Maggiore Green Meeting”.
They came from England, Italy, France, Holland, Switzerland, Ethiopia, Pakistan and Israel to learn about the latest developments in the marble and granite industry. Earlier this year from April 3-5 around twenty architects met together in Baveno for the incoming organized following as closely as possible the standards provided by Green Meeting of Lago Maggiore Meeting Industry, created thanks to a joint agreement between Swiss and Italian tourism promotion bodies (Chambers of Commerce, Provinces, Local Tourist Agencies, Convention Bureaus and Associations), which with the Lago Maggiore Green Meeting project is still the foremost “sustainable” conference destination on the Italian and Swiss market. The event – organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (VCO) in cooperation with the Consorzio Marmisti Bresciani and the Centro Servizio Lapidei VCO – was focused on demonstrating the latest developments in the stone materials industry that includes marble, granite, travertine and other types of stone. In addition to classroom seminars there were also technical tours of some quarries with a specific focus on the local stone production of Serizzo, Beola, Palissandro Marble and Granite. In particular, they visited the Palissandro Marble quarry in Crevoladossola, a very ancient extraction site and the only one in the world containing this precious material, and the Favalle quarry.
Participating in the mission were about 20 professionals including international architects, designers and planners working within a multitude of architectural disciplines; all of the participants expressed their strong appreciation of the initiative, from the choice of the Grand Hotel Dino for overnight stays (a structure in line to receive Emas registration) to coffee breaks, lunches and dinners based on local produce procured at km0, including the gala dinner at the Michelin two-star restaurant Piccolo Lago, a member of Lago Maggiore Conference, recently added to the select group of Green Meeting suppliers. The event was organized in collaboration with Lago Maggiore Green Meeting’s partners, following the best practices to reduce environmental impact by avoiding the use of disposable materials, paper (from invitations to presentations, all of the material was available online), taking care to avoid waste and reducing as much as possible the number of transfers, as in previous events held in compliance with the Green Meeting code of conduct. MICE operators can rely on a chain of suppliers who, by adhering to a code of conduct drawn up based on the best international experiences, guarantee the final customer an event carried out with respect for the environment on the basis of three principles: sustainable event management through an organizational process that reduces environmental impact; innovation and quality in researching new solutions that follow the “green meeting” model; partnership – a commitment to developing a network of professional products and services geared toward sustainability. The project proposes Lago Maggiore as a point of reference to encourage the coordinated promotion of the territory’s offer for conferences with the aim of strengthening the MICE sector by providing the market with unified communication and an integrated and accessible system for the organization of eco-friendly meetings.
Green marriages are becoming increasingly popular. For many couples, the marriage is not only the moment to state a promise: is also the occasion to share with family and friends the values of sustainability and social responsibility. Many aspects are involved in the organization of a low impact marriage: from the dress’ choice to the send of invitations, from the buffet to the guests accommodation. Today brides and grooms can choose their sustainable dress between many qualified stylists: unlike the past, green clothing is not only “good” but also fashionable. As regards to invitations, the internet offers the opportunity to save paper, but there are also more traditional solutions available: for instance, recycled invitations written with non polluting soya ink. The most complicated part in the organization of a green marriage appears to be the choice of a location suitable to hold a low impact reception. Lago Maggiore can provide a remarkable selection of hotels and residences committed to sustainability. To chose one of the structures adhering to Lago Maggiore Meeting Industry means to receive qualified support from experts in green events’ management. After all, to organize a marriage is not so different to organize a meeting or a seminar: in both cases, it is necessary to enter into details to obtain a successful event. Preparation and promotion
Some years ago, a meeting preparatory phase could be environmentally costly.
Instead of receiving paper brochures and meeting facility directories, now people can use free online databases to find out the best place to hold a meeting. There’s no more need to collect big folders full of documents: informations are constantly available online.
Nowadays it’s possible to book structures directly online, both contacting meeting centers or going through specialized companies such as Meeting Broker and Worktropia.
When a location is chosen and all the details are settled, the promotion phase starts.
Thanks to the web it’s possible to promote meetings and events through email marketing campaigns: a way to reach a targeted public without wasting paper.
Another good promotional opportunity is to involve well-knows bloggers, so as to reach a bigger audience.
On the organizational side, the web provides opportunities to manage easily bookings, payments and accommodation.
At every seminar and event we were used to receive big amounts of paper. Today many structures offer a wireless connection and the documents are no more printed: they’re available online, together with course notes and forums where to discuss events’ and seminars’ content.
Thanks to streaming a bigger audience can be reached without implying the ecological footprint of transportation and accommodation.
Registration of speeches represents a further opportunity to reach a bigger audience, using Youtube or putting videos on a website.
Evaluation of attendees satisfaction is becoming widespread. For an enterprise is very important to have a feedback on events and meetings. Now there are web-based tools to measure the perceived value of every initiative.
Of course, there are many other fields where technology can help in organize greener events: from building heating and cooling to ecological supply chains, nowadays there are hundreds of opportunities to save energy and to significantly reduce an event’s impact.
To know and exploit technology is the first step to gain efficiency and to develop a fully sustainable meeting industry.
